Football Pitch
Football is hugely popular in Iraq; in fact it's probably the Nation's favourite sport! Therefore when we received a request from a number of different groups involved in reconstruction in Northern Iraq about constructing a football pitch, we were delighted to be able to assist.
The youth centre occupies a central position in the town and has a piece of land suited to a football pitch thus it should have been a straightforward project. However, construction in the area had been severely disrupted and in some cases been brought to a complete halt due to the parlous security situation in and around the town. The region has become a popular route for insurgents entering Iraq which has compounded the problem.
In cooperation with a very determined local contractor we managed to overcome the security issues and provide a facility which the children love and the inaugural match was a great success!
