Lack of clean drinking water continues to be a major problem in Iraq. The Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works is making sewage and drinking water projects its main effort. In light of this, we are keen to respond to the government's reconstruction priorities. Aegis teams have recently installed water purification systems in several schools in Basrah.
For less than $3,000 per school we hired an Iraqi contractor to install a water purification unit with outdoor taps to provide drinking water to the students. The contract covers monthly renewal of cartridges and carbon filters, an annual change of carbon filters and maintenance training for the staff.
This project met with great success on all fronts, establishing good relations with the local communities, bringing together key figures from the education authorities, together with coalition partners and local neighbourhoods.
